Puppy Training

One of the significant times in your dog’s life and yours as its owner is its young age. As a puppy it learns new things in life, see new people, places and objects as well as understand and adapt to new environments. Of course as its owner you have certain needs yourself in having a dog in your home that can live in harmony with you, your family, your friends, guests and your life style.

Therefore, young dogs need proper guidance and training in understanding your surroundings and life style and there’s no better person to do it THAN yourself.

To make this process much simpler, here are some do’s and don’ts of puppy training.

First and foremost the most important things to remember is whenever you follow these tips make sure that 1) your dog is exposed to these lessons in a loving and comfortable approach 2) that you do not rush your pup to learn them as each pup takes its own time when learning new things and 3) you introduce each tip at a certain frequency so that there is no large time gap between each lesson.

Some of the socializing DO’s of training a puppy is to invite your friends and family over to meet your new pup. Try to bring people of different ages, ethnic groups etc. in contact with your puppy so that it identifies as non-harmful creatures.

Socialize your puppy with healthy, vaccinated dogs and other animals, if you encounter them in your daily life.

Take your pet to places that you usually go to like shopping centers, parks etc. Being comfortable in places where there are large crowds will help your dog be more adaptable during your encounters with the same surrounds in future.

Take your puppy on short and frequent car rides. This will come in handy at those times when you take it to the vet.

Some of the important DON’Ts to remember is, don’t keep or socialize your puppy with unknown animals as your puppy are prone to catching diseases.

If your puppy looks frightened at any of the new activities or objects you introduce approach with love and try not to give rewards to encourage the behavior. This will send a wrong message to your puppy instead what we want is to let it grow into a healthy, happy dog.
