Home Painting And Decorating Tips |
|
So, you’ve either moved to a new home or refurbishing the old one and it’s come down to selecting the right color for your walls. Sounds easy? Aha! You’ll think again when the colors you have picked either don’t match the colors of windows or ceiling or worse the lighting inside the house does not give the appearance you anticipated.
So before you pay your money and buy the paint, here are some guidelines you can follow before selecting the right color.
If your home is an old house that you’re trying to paint, you might want to hire a professional who can analyze old paint chips and recreate the original color. Or if you prefer to use a new shade then it is better still to find out what is originally underneath before a color can be selected.
Although this is your home, before selecting a color for your walls, it is advisable to take a look at your surroundings and see if the style and color you’re trying to create is complimented with your environment. If the color you have selected does not compliment with your neighbors this could emphasis your house and not in a good way either.
Give consideration to the color of your ceiling and window panes before rushing to the paint shop. Your walls, ceiling and windows must harmonize with each other to give that desired appearance.
If you have already selected the furniture you want for your home then giving due consideration for its color compatibility is important so that your walls compliment your furniture and vice versa.
Dark colors will make your house seem small while light colors will do the exact opposite. So you can select several compatible colors and use them to give depth and contrast to each area. However, remember not to use too many colors as this could over do it. Two or three colors used in combination can do the trick.
Some other tips to remember is durability, contrast and of course sheen of the color. It is not an easy task to go through all this but take comfort in knowing that help is available either from a professional or a friend or even your paint shop owner might be able to give you some sound advice. |
