Collecting as a hobby

There isn't any particular thing that should and shouldn't be collected. It can be virtually anything you can think of, from coins to even watches! From the small to the rare stuff, collecting is all about procuring, organizing, categorizing, keeping properly and showing the things that you are interested in.

Beer Can Collecting became wildly popular during the 1970s. It all started when the first ever beer can was produced in October 1935 by the American Can Company and Gottfieg Krueger Brewing Company. Though the banning brought about a reduction on the number of beer cans and brewery collectables up for grabs, the 40s, 50s, and the 60s provided a large amount of collectables that truly show up the spirit & style of those times.

Though it is somewhat non - existent nowadays, it is slowly staging a comeback because the internet has allowed most of these collectors and these dealers and fans to get back together!

Book Collecting is another popular hobby, with there being various categories of collectors. People tend to preserve their collection of books based on a number of factors, some being the author, publisher or genre.

Coins and stamps have an enormous fan base and are often started off when we're small. We often find ourselves trying to relieve our young days along with our kids and grand children. Whenever you embark into coin collecting, always make sure that you get value for the money you spend on buying coins by looking at the grade of the coin. Never rush to buy a coin, and try to get as many samples of the same coin as possible so that you can get the best one. The same goes for stamps, except it's difficult to put a grading scale to it. You just have to try and find out when the stamp was made so that you can put a price on it.

Trading cards and sporting souvenirs were the rage of the nation during the 80s and hasn't shown signs of abating. Look for sites where people with the same interest as you meet and discuss stuff. Find out about associations, forums, mags and newsletters regarding your items of interest.
