It is imperative for moms all over the world to understand the reasons and purpose of vaccines. Many questions are raised regarding the effectiveness and safety of vaccines. Most of the adverse publicity are misconceptions and can easily be rectified, if one takes the time to research and find out the truth. Regardless of the social standing of a mother, a mom is a mom and a child a precious child. It is therefore essential to educate moms all over the world regarding the benefits of vaccination.
Moms need to understand why vaccines should be administered and the reasons for vaccinations. The first vaccine will essentially start at birth as children are more susceptible to sicknesses and therefore strengthening their immune system is essential. Though children are born with a inherent immune system, it does not protect children from diseases such as polio, whooping cough, measles and hepatitis B. Further, the life span of the natural immune system is from 1 to 12 months. If children are not vaccinated they could be victims of any one of these diseases which can lead to brain damage and heart problems and even to paralysis and death. Moms who went through such experiences with their children, would certainly have gone through untold hardships, physically and economically. The joy in their house may have vanished. Through it even the other children may have been neglected. What emotions the family went through cannot possibly be put into words. Advent of vaccines have brought is so much of relief to the world. The purpose of the vaccines is to protect children against preventable diseases. Even as late as 1989 to 1991, in USA alone 120 died due to measles.
Equally important is the administration of the vaccines in a timely manner, as non compliance will defeat the purpose it is meant for. The child's pediatrician will guide you through the schedule of vaccines and it is in your interest to ensure that the vaccine schedule is honored. With immunization available to everyone, the long term goal will be for eradication of a particular disease. This will eventually lead to the non requirement of vaccines.
Moms should also be aware of the side effects of vaccines which are not always experienced. Usually the child might be sore around the area where the vaccine was administered. The possibility of running a temperature is also common. However, in rare situations the child might experience an allergic reaction such as hoarseness or wheezing, hives, paleness, dizziness and swelling of the throat which should receive immediate medical attention.
However, the side effects are negligible in comparison to the life long benefits vaccinations offer. Moms should not be influenced due to baseless incorrect information and be able to trust concerned authorities who are emphasizing the need for vaccines to make this world a healthier place for mankind. .
