If children are not immunized, they will be unnecessarily exposed to life threatening diseases and other dangerous sicknesses. Parents take every precaution to protect their children from harm and danger and from every sickness. It is not possible to protect their children from diseases without taking preventive measures to immunize the children. Some parents are concerned about immunizing based on stories they may have heard, without actually knowing the facts. Parents should take time to find out the importance and the benefits of immunization.
Having a healthy child will be on top of a parent’s wish list. To ensure the good health of your baby it is important to immunize the child from preventive diseases. All children are born with a natural immune system which will be effective from one month to 12 months. However, the inherited immune system in an infant cannot prevent sicknesses such as polio, whooping cough, measles and hepatitis being contacted. After- effects of these sicknesses can be very costly. They can lead to brain damage and heart problems and even to paralysis and death. Imagine the pain of mind parents would have to go through if their child has to undergo such adversities. A parent will never be able to forgive her/him self for not taking the precaution when it is available. It may eventually leave you a pauper after spending an immense amount of money on the sickness and in a household where two parents are working, one parent may even have to give up the job to stay at home and take care of their child. This would lead to more hardships on the family’s economic situation and may cause stress within the parents. They too may go through depression and other sicknesses which in turn will require medical attention. It would be a cycle of events that are uncontrollable. This can so easily be avoided with vaccines as most of the fatal diseases occur to children before they even start going to school. This is one of the reasons for schools to require their immunization records.
If the children are in good health, a parent does have to waste time and money at clinics taking the children from one physician to another. Children too will not have to undergo unnecessary physical discomfort.
On the contrary the risks are very insignificant . The children may experience soreness in the place where the vaccines were injected and a mild fever. It is only in extreme cases that there may be allergic reactions which will require immediate medical attention.
Immunization makes a healthy society and if effectively controlled will in the future eradicate dangerous sicknesses and there would come a time when vaccines will no longer be necessary. However, that would be possible only when the whole world is free of sickness as globalization has paved the way for easy access to foreign travel. Children who are not immunized are also a threat to society as they could very well spread a disease.
Therefore the benefits of childhood immunization certainly outweighs the risks
