Q. What are Dermal Fillers used for?
Dermal fillers are used to fill in areas where a natural loss of collagen volume has occurred, usually due to the aging process.
Q. How does Dermal Fillers work?
The production in the skin of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) is reduced with advancing age. Over time, the loss of HA in our skin results in facial wrinkles and folds, like those "parentheses" lines around your mouth. For example JUVÉDERM® injectable gel replaces the HA the skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. A breakthrough in HA dermal fillers, JUVÉDERM® is the first smooth-consistency HA gel and the only filler that's FDA approved to last up to a year!
Q. How effective are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are very effective. When JUVÉDERM® was tested in a clinical setting among people who didn't know which filler they were getting, nearly 90% stated a preference for JUVÉDERM® In addition, JUVÉDERM® injectable gel has been tested on all skin types, both male and female, so everyone can enjoy the benefits of JUVÉDERM®
Q. What are the types of Dermal Fillers?
Most dermal fillers are various formulations of hyaluronic acid. An advantage of HA fillers is that the substance can be dissolved with an enzyme that will remove the HA, if desired. Another substance used consists of calcium hydroxylapatite. It is removable only by surgery and typically lasts much longer than HA.
Q. How long does the effects of Dermal Fillers last?
Different HA fillers will last varying periods of time. JUVÉDERM® can last 6 to 9 months with the first injection and if repeated at that time can last over a year. The calcium hydroxylapatite filler can last much longer. |
