| Dr. Joel M. Rein is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the doctor has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Rhinoplasty.
Q. Are there any age restrictions for undergoing Rhinoplasty?
A. Patients for Rhinoplasty must have fully mature facial growth, usually by age 15 on. No upper limit, as have had successful outcomes in pt’s in their 60’s.
Q. Why does it take a full year to see final Rhinoplasty results?
A. Two descriptions of healing pertain; i.e. social present ability of Rhinoplasty at about 2 weeks, which is most important to my patients, and long term resolution of skin edema & ultimate refinement of nasal tip sculpturing which does require 6mo to 1 year for biohealing to be effected.
Q. Is Rhinoplasty very painful?
A. Rhinoplasty is NOT painful at all.
Q. What is nasal packing?
A. In my patients the nose is overdressed with a molded splint, then "packed" by use of two finger-cot balloons gently filled with Vaseline gauze stuffing to compress the inner nasal lining against the overlying splint. This rapidly stops post op bleeding & can be easily withdrawn the next day by simply sliding the balloon tubes out. No stick, no mess.
