The key difference between business grants and loans is that grants does not need to be paid back where as loans one will require to pay the amount taken as a loan.

Business Grants and Loans - It pays to know the difference!

The significant difference between Business Grants and Loans is that grants are monies given for small businesses, education and other types of needs, and one does not have to pay back this amount, and Loans are payments where one has to pay back along with an interest for the amount obtained.  Given below is a more detailed description about the differences about business grants and loans.

Grants:

Grant are given to those in need of starting up business and other types of need, and to qualify for these grants, one has to meet the required criteria and the most important factor is to be above 18 years of age and be a citizen of the country.  Millions of dollars are set aside for small business owners, and by applying for these grants you can be eligible for this payment.  Before giving out these grants one will require to submit a grant proposal.  Your current income is not a necessity but one will have to indicate the plans for your business, how you intend running the business and how you intend obtaining funds should be mentioned in this proposal.  Further, the number of employees you intend employing, insurance plan and the method you intend following too is important and must be stated in your proposal.  Your personal situation and credit reports will not make any difference when applying for grants, and if you have been found eligible for business grants, it is yours.

Loans:

Loans can be obtained from government institutions and other private institution.  The government does not grant loans directly to the small business owners, but they will back the private and commercial institutions and banks on behalf of these entrepreneurs.  Unlike grants these will be required to pay back, and an interest will be charged depending on the amount you obtain and the period you intend paying it off.  Also when obtaining loans it will not be easy as applying for grants, as banks and lending institutions will require particulars and personal information about yourself, and there will be forms to be filled and quite an amount of paper work involved.  Your credit history will also pay a big role when they grant you credit and these loans will be given depending on your income and depending on how you can pay back the loan.

Banks and other lending institutions too will follow the same procedure, but not with the backing of the local government, as such the discretion of granting credit will be entirely up to these institutions.

These business grants and loans are given for those who intend starting up small businesses and franchises.  Applying for grants will be more beneficial, as paying back the sum you receive as grants is not required, thus this being an incentive to the new businesses owners.
