Q. What is a Mommy Makeover?
A. Mommy Makeover refers to those procedures that we do to correct the "damage" done to a women's body after pregnancy. The two most common surgeries would be breast surgery and tummy tucks.
Q. Who is a good candidate for Mommy Makeover?
A. A good candidate would be anyone who has had the typical irreversible changes to the breasts and abdomen after pregnancy and is done with child bearing.
Q. What are the important facts about the safety and risks of the Mommy Makeover?
A. While any surgery can entail a risk, these procedures when performed on appropriate candidates are safe.
Q. What happens during the Mommy Makeover surgery?
A. Most of the issues related to post pregnancy changes are due to stretching of the skin of the breasts and the abdomen. The breast often times can in volute (shrink) as well. The breasts are improved by adding a breast implant with the possibility of a lift (removing the additional stretched skin). This reshapes and rejuvenates the breast back to its pre-pregnancy status. With the abdomen the skin not only is stretched but the abdominal muscles will be pulled out of position. This makes the abdomen lax and protuberant. Many women will try to exercise trying to improve their look but are unable get any change. This can only be corrected with surgery and in this instance a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is performed.
Q. What are the Options for the Mommy Makeover?
A. The options are as stated above but liposuction can be included, as well when you are doing an abdominoplasty.
Q. What is the recovery time for Mommy Makeover?
A. All of these procedures can be done as an out patient. Most people can be back at work in a week or two. You need to refrain from heavy activities (exercise) for about 4 weeks.
Q. How much will the Mommy Makeover cost?
A. Fees are inclusive of surgeons fee, anesthesia charges and operating room costs. Each of the procedures vary in charges but are between $5,000 and $9,000. Most can be done in combination with a discount.
