An Interview with Dr. Gregory Allen Kerbel on Tooth Whitening
Dr. Gregory Allen Kerbel is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Tooth Whitening.
Q. What is tooth whitening?
A. For many dental patients whitening is all the cosmetic dentistry they may need. Whitening is a process of removing the brown, yellow, or orange stains that get on the outside of teeth or that permeate into the enamel of the tooth. In essence whitening removes the discolored stains and leaves the healthy tooth structure. It is a safe and non-invasive way of getting a whiter, cleaner smile.
Q. Who may benefit from teeth whitening?
A. We wait to whiten teeth until all the permanent teeth are fully erupted, so typically after age 15. This is a broad generalization because many factors may cause us to wait to whiten including slow tooth eruption, braces, or even restorative work (fillings) that need to be addressed prior to whitening.
Q. Who are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening?
A. If the patient does not have enough enamel on their teeth, then very little whitening will occur. Also I caution people with "super sensitive" teeth to air or cold to try tray whitening first before doing Zoom. Zoom is much stronger and may cause an increase in sensitivity so it is better to use caution and see how they respond to a less strong method first.
Q. What does tooth whitening involve?
A. Dallas Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Gregory Allen Kerbel, offers two ways to whiten your teeth. The all new /Zoom! /Advanced Power, the newest form of Zoom whitening is performed in our office. The procedure is all done the same day with three 15 minute tooth whitening treatments. We have seen dramatic results with a color improvement of up to eleven shades. It is great for the patient who wants to whiten their teeth quickly. As an added service, we provide each /Zoom!/ whitening patient with custom trays so you can maintain your new white smile, and even touch them up in the future for those special occasions when you want your teeth their whitest.
Take-home whitening is still available for those wishing to whiten their teeth using tooth whitening trays. This is a slower process than /Zoom!/ Advanced Power, but it is great for patients who want to whiten their teeth and time is not an issue. We will help guide you to the whitening system that is best for you.
No matter which system you choose, tooth whitening (bleaching) is a wonderful procedure to make your smile whiter, cleaner looking, and brighter.
Q. How long does this take?
A. The inoffice procedure using Zoom Advanced Power is typically a single appointment and takes around 2 hours.
Tray whitening is done at home and usually takes 4-5 weeks at 2 times per day for around an hour each time.
Q. How much does tooth whitening cost?
A. The Zoom Advanced Power is around $.499 including take home trays and gel to maintain your color after the appointment.
*For New Patients that mention this article we will give them complimentary take home whitening after they receive in our office a new patient exam, full series of x-rays, and a cleaning. *
Q. What are the side effects?
A. Mild sensitivity to cold after whitening that in most cases goes away after the whitening has been completed.
Q. How to contact Dr. Kerbel if we have further questions?
A.
