An Interview with Dr. John S. Poser on Liposuction

Dr. John S. Poser is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Liposuction.

Q. What is liposuction?

A.  It is the removal of fatty tissue with a suction device under local and IV sedation with a small incision without any cutting involved.  Liposuction should be referred to as liposculpturing because you are not doing it for weight loss, but you are doing it to take away the lumps and bumps and replace them with smooth curves.

Q. Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

A.  A good candidate for liposuction is someone who is not more than 50 pounds overweight and has some symmetries in their anatomy that would be improved by simple liposuction.

Q. What are the risks associated with liposuction surgery?

A.  The complications include, which you can have from any surgery, which include infection, continued asymmetry, dimpling or puckering, mild discomfort, and bruising.

Q. What technique will the surgeon use to perform the liposuction?

A.  Liposuction technique includes a tumescent anesthesia, which is simply saline with numbing medicine in the anesthesia under a twilight sedation.  There are different techniques including, laser technique but that is more for smaller areas than larger areas and can be done without IV sedation.

Q. How long is the recovery period?

A.  The recovery time of liposuction varies but overall,  80% if the swelling is gone in 6 weeks and approximately 100% is gone in 3 months.

Q. Are the results of liposuction permanent?

A.  The results of liposuction are permanent for the fat cells that I remove forever, so if weight gain occurs it will be in a smooth and symmetric fashion.

Q. How much does liposuction surgery cost?

A.  Liposuction can cost anywhere from  $500.00 for a small area to $4500.00 or $5500.00 for major body areas.

Q. How to contact Dr. Poser if we have further questions?

A.  You may contact Dr. Poser at 352-372-3672 or email me at info@posermd.com or www.posermd.com
