Today the world of franchising is searching for people to take up the challenge of the fast growing business of franchising. There is an immense potential for women in certain franchise options as well. Therefore the business world requires females who believe that they can succeed. This is confirmed by several survey results which found out that “the franchisors are desperate to see an increase in inquiries from women more than any other group”.
However recent research conducted by Natwest/BFA reveals that “only 21% franchisees surveyed were women and interestingly only 9% of the new franchisees were women. Therefore the time has now arrived to set aside the myths regarding franchising as being an option better suited for males.
It is interesting to note that there are certain areas of franchise where women surpass men. Historically these areas include cosmetics, childcare facilities, bridal and beauty-care, interior design services, flower arrangements, housekeeping and more recently weight-loss centers focusing health conscious women.
Further there is a trend in recent times among women, to go beyond traditional boundaries to succeed in what was considered as male dominated industries such as financial services, real estates, fast moving consumer goods, information technology…etc.
Apart from that, the typical male behavior of searching for options full of challenge, greater independence, high risk and rewards, results in males selecting other avenues of business neglecting franchise options which are generally considered as secure options. On the other hand women, although equally capable as men, prefer to seek options of low initial capital, high security and flexibility.
The end result of all the above is the ever increasing requirement of women being engaged in franchising. The franchisors in order to uplift the spirit of women have come up with increasingly supportive, flexible packages which include comprehensive and continues training coupled with additional support such as finance, vendor partners, consultation…etc
Therefore it is only a matter of time before we find the franchise industry dominated by women. |
