An Interview featuring Dr. Brett Bolton as a hair transplant surgeon on Bizymoms Fort Lauderdale

Dr. Brett Bolton, a member of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Hair transplant.

Q. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THIS FIELD AND APPROXIMATIELY HOW MAY PROCEDURES OF THIS TYPE HAVE YOU PERFOMED?

Personally, I have been doing hair transplants for over 13 years and have performed more than 3,500 procedures.  It is all I do, and it is all that my staff does. I perform more hair transplants a year than 90% of the hair transplant surgeons around the world. I have performed thousands of surgeries and I have nothing but happy patients.  Reason being, if ever a patient is not fully satisfied I will get them satisfied at no additional cost to them.  Simply put, you need a hair transplant specialist, not just a surgeon who does hair transplants.  It is all I do, and it is all my staff does.  I will use all of my artistic and surgical knowledge to help you regain a soft, realistic hairline that looks and feels completely natural.  I stand behind my work and I guarantee a successful outcome!

Q. PLEASE EXPLAIN THE PRIMARY PROCEDURES PERFORMED BY YOUR PRACTICE.

All we do is hair transplant surgery, a few of the advancements and procedures we offer are:

Micro and Follicular unit hair grafting.
Follicular Unit Extraction
MUG hair grafting - is a technique Dr. Bolton has perfected and is extremelty effective for transplanting large numbers of hairs in a single procedure.  This process typically delivers twice as much hair in a single procedure and saves patients time and money.
Beard and eyebrow transplants

Q. DO YOU PROVIDE FREE CONSULTATION?

We offer a complimentary consultation along with a personalized consult analysis.  We offer virtual consultations for patients outside the immediate area who are unable to come in to the office for a personal meeting.  Furthermore, our website, www.greathairtransplants.com, offers a host of information and illustrations that can allow prospective patients to learn more about the entire hair restoration process before even making a phone call to our offices.

Q. HOW LONG DOES A HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE TAKE?

The procedure will last approximately three to five hours depending on the size of the surgery. Many patients sleep the first few hours and thereafter watch a movie to help pass the time.

Q. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY OWN HAIR? WILL HAIR TRANSPLANTS EVER FALL OUT?

If you have existing hair in the area we are working on, that is great.  This means, we get to add to your existing density.  Unfortunately, we just do not know if you are going to keep your un-transplanted hair due to genetics.  On the day of the procedure, we are always as careful as we can possibly be to maintain your existing hair.  However, we use extremely sharp instruments and there is no way around it, we will unintentionally be cutting some of your existing hair.  This amount of hair loss is usually not even noticeable.  The real concern of potential hair loss is ”shock”.  Unfortunately, shock can happen to anyone, and there is no way to prevent it.  The percentage of any patient getting shock is low.  If your hair falls out due to shock, it will come back the same time as the transplanted hair.  However, if your hair falls out due to shock but it was a dead hair, it will not come back.  It would have fallen out eventually, maybe not on the day of the procedure but over time it would have fallen out. Doing a hair transplant does not kill existing hair.  Every hair that is transplanted on the day of the procedure falls out within one to two weeks and does not start growing for about eight to twelve weeks.  The hair then grows at a pace of a half of an inch a month thereafter.  So it generally takes about three months to start growing, then it takes about six months from that three month point until you have about three inches of growth in the transplanted area.

Q. DOES IT HURT? ARE THE CLIENTS KEPT CONSCIOUS DURING THE PROCEDURE? HOW SON CAN I GO BACK TO WORK AND MY REGULAR ACTIVITIES?

As far as surgery goes the answer is no, it does not hurt.  The procedure is done under local anesthetic.  Initially, you will feel a few pinches as the medication is being administered, but that is about it.  In the past with the plugs, it was much more of an uncomfortable procedure.  However, today it is well tolerated with minimal discomfort.  I write a prescription for pain relief for all of my patients.  The majority of them do not even have it filled; they just take over the counter Tylenol.  The first night is the chance of the most discomfort. Thereafter, it is pretty negligible. You will feel fine the following day after the procedure.  You will think that you can go back to all of your regular activities.  However, you do not want to do that.  The easier you take it, the quicker you will heal, and the better your results will be!  Some of my patients go back to work the same day of the procedure.  I do not recommend this.  As long as you do not do any heavy lifting (above 15 pounds), you may go back to work the following day.  You will be able to go back to the gym and your regular physical activities within about eight to ten days after the procedure.  The website, www.greathairtransplants.com, details more information about after the procedure, as well as other considerations and concerns that patients may have before and after their hair transplant.
