Food Adventures
Blondie & Brownie, aka Siobhan & Alex, are two friends who met while working together in New York City. More often than not, their conversations were not about work, but about what they ate for dinner last night and what they would have for lunch later. They'd joke about an imaginary blog until one day they decided there wasn't any reason not to have one. A few days later Blondie & Brownie was born during their lunch hour. Two years in, they're still trying to consume every meal New York has to offer, for better or worse.
1. Do Blondie and Brownie have particular favorites or do they like all types of food?
We both LOVE sweets to bordering on obsession. Lately it's been all about the pie rather than the trendy cupcake for both of us. As for savory food, we pretty much like everything, but we do get a little crazy for pizza.
2. How do you find out about all these food happenings in and around your town?
We find out a lot from other blogs, especially Serious Eats, Eater and the NY Times Dining Calendar. We get emails every day from PR people with invites to private events, but we tend to not cover food the public can't eat.
3. Aside from the two of you, who else has contributed to your exciting food adventures?
Brownie's little brother aka Lil' Bobo has written a few articles for us, but we've done almost all the writing since we began even though we're more than willing to let our friends do some if they'd like. When it comes to eating, of course, everyone in our lives has contributed at some point.
4. How do you pick the blogs that are featured as “Our Favoritest Sites”?
Those are just blogs and websites we both frequent or love the concept behind. Like many bloggers, we constantly need to update it, either to add more or take a few off. We understand the falling in and out of love with a certain site.
5. Tell us about “Blondie and Brownie’s Adventures with Flickr”. Which of you is the avid photographer of food adventures?
We both avidly take pictures, and there are some in our Flickr that never make it to the site! Brownie has the big fancy camera, while Blondie makes do with a Canon point-and-shoot which is in desperate need of an upgrade.Point-and-shoots help when you need to be inconspicuous in restaurants.
6. How do you choose the tasty goodies featured in your blog? What do you look for in these goodies?
Often it's that we've heard about them from fellow bloggers or commenters.Usually a meal will be featured if it's really good (i.e. you should seek this out and waste the calories) or it's really bad. If it's a mediocre meal, we won't talk about it unless there is some else that makes it special; for example, Blondie's first time eating Ethiopian. The only meals that certainly never make it to the Internet are the incredibly personal ones - we have to keep somethings to ourselves.
7. How do you think your blog has helped fuel your follower's obsession with food?
We let them know when they should make the effort to go indulge in something! New York is a funny town in the respect that it has some of the world's best and worst food, both high and low brow. And a good amount of the restaurants are over-hyped and/or over-priced, and we're not afraid to say so.
