Cooking is a art in its own right. Being able to cook is good but if you want to be a great cook just cooking food would not do. You need to know how to present your dish. This is also a part of cooking where creativity plays a major role. A dish might be tasty but if it does not look good and if it is not presentable then you might not even want to taste it.
Cooking requires dedication, talent, effort, creativity and skill. How many times have you just eaten something just because it looked nice? A good cook will always know that his cooking will come to nothing, if he/she does not present it in a proper manner. If you have ever been into a good restaurant then you would know that all the dishes that come out are well decorated and are easy on the eye.
Colors are very important. A dish would look nice if it had several colors in it. Imagine a dish which only has one color. It will not make you want to dive in. But if the dish has different colors and is presented well then your mouth will start to water even before you smell or taste the dish. It is a mental and human thing. Before you taste something with your tongue you will first see it with your eyes and then smell it with your nose. This is how a dish should be created. First the dish should fill your eyes. Then it should smell good so that just thinking about it will get you mouth watery. And finally it should make your taste buds go wild. This is the secret to a good quality dish.
So the first thing is to make sure that the person will want to put whatever is in the dish into his/her mouth. This is where decorating a dish comes in. If you are preparing a dish at home you don't have to be as good and precise as a professional. All you need to do is present it clean and nice. If you can, slice in a couple of tomatoes and try to add in a bit of greenery. This will make the dish look very nice and presentable.
Cooking as I always say is not for the faint hearted. A cook should not be afraid of failure and should always try new things. Creativity is very important as well. Cooking is an art and like all other forms of art its up to the artist to make sure that his piece of work has a happy ending.
