Things you need to know about what you drink |
I'm sure that you don't go around just gulping down or using whatever liquids that you can get your hands on. However, here are a couple of precautionary measures or things you should know before you drink something :
- Never drink any water from the sinks of hotels, restaurants and public restrooms. Generally, this water is only good for cleaning your hands. However, don't try drinking it because most hotels and restaurants (unless they're part of the 'big boys') don't send a lot of good water through these taps. Don't try drinking them. I don't think I need to tell you about public restrooms, which aren't always maintained properly.
- Make sure that the water you drink is purified, either by heating or by some other means such as those water purifiers that come with refrigerators. Any unprocessed water or water which has not been treated properly after been extracted isn't gonna' do any favours for your health.
- Generally, you may find that, in some restaurants, they give you beverages in a glass which has moisture on them. Get the waiter to change the glass. This is because the moisture has come about because the room in which the glass was kept may have been fairly hot. This would've caused some germs to get on the glass along with the moisture, which will affect your drink and, potentially, your health.
- Nowadays, you see water bottles on shelves, often unbranded or, in some extreme cases, even unlabelled! Now this is something that you'd definitely want to avoid as what's inside the bottle may not entirely be water and, in fact, may have much more than water. Make sure you only drink branded ones like Aquafina.
- Though there are all those activists who promote the drinking of raw milk, saying that it's really healthy, there are a number of ill effects that you can inherit if you consume raw milk. For one, untreated milk contains certain bacterias which can possibly damage your stomach and intestines, and can also give you unwanted diseases like constipation, diarrhea, stomach cramps and nausea, something which you really don't want to suffer when you're going on a holiday or leisure trip!
- I know a lot of people who have a terrible habit of being too lazy to brush their teeth properly with their toothbrush and toothpaste and, instead, just use the water from the tap to rub their teeth, hoping that it would be enough. But this is not a very good move because, as I mentioned earlier, not all hotels and restaurants have clean water running in their taps, so you'd risk spoiling your teeth by doing this!
