There are different cultural rituals when it comes to cooking in different parts of the world. People from different countries use different spices and techniques to cook their speciality dishes.

Cultures and the rituals of food

Food as soon as we see is a very important part of life. It helps us to live and grow. Food provides nourishment and revitalizes the body. But there is more to food than just being a source of nourishment and a source of survival. Since we as humans know that it is impossible to live without food different cultures from around the world have come up with rituals which are combined with food.

Food is considered to be sacred in many cultures. Food is given as offering to the gods. Different cultures believe that food is based on a life line of connections and if the gods are not pleased they will punish mankind by cursing us with bad crops. Food has over the years become so close to man that different cultures have rituals based on food. There are many food festivals around the world in which they honor the farmers, other people who produced food and the food itself for being a source of life.

Take for example tea. In China tea is considered a sacred drink. It's called the art of tea. The simple matter of having tea is not a simple thing to any Chinese person. It is a ritual filled with honor and pride. Everything about tea is sacred to the Chinese people.

In Asian cultures food is no joke. In some Asian cultures all the members in the family eat in one big plate called a Savan. It is filled with rice, meat and all other kinds of traditional food. They believe that by eating in one plate the bondage of the family is increased. This is true in many cultures and even in the Western and European cultures. It is believed that at least one meal a day should be served when the whole family is present. This increases family bondage and each family member will get to know what the others are doing. This mostly happens at dinner and each family member tells what happened during that day.

Some cultures have food festivals and raves. These festivals are filled with food, games and other cultural events. Every body in certain area will get to gather and enjoy the occasion which increases bondage, friendship and the sense of family.

Food, since the time of the Stone Age has evolved from being just a source of "making the hunger go away" to a source of heritage, honor and discipline. Many would certainly include food in their top 5 most important things on any given day. Food is not just a source of health and well being, but rather a source of heritage and honor.
