Following the more technical article of the last column, we are now going to look at two artists who provide the listener with the opportunity to drift away from the pressures and stresses of modern life through the listening of their high quality albums.  

MEDWYN GOODALL

Born in Yorkshire, England in 1961, Medwyn Goodall began composing original songs as a teenager.  His enthusiasm for all kind of instruments resulted in him becoming accomplished player of mandolin, piano, drums, harp, flute, glockenspiel, pan-pipes, vibraphone and synthesizer.  His first album was “Emergence” released in 1987 and has since recorded over 75 albums all of which he has produced, arranged, performed, mixed and mastered every song.   These include “Earth Healer” which was voted album of the year in 1992, “Medicine Woman” and the always popular “Timeless” This very versatile musician now lives and records in Cornwall.  

TERRY OLDFIELD

After leaving school at 16, Terry began his musical path by being a “roadie” for a number of groups in the mid to late 1960s.  The early 1970s Terry formed a group with his brother Mike titled “Barefoot” before Mike wrote and arranged the classic “Tubular Bells” album.  Terry’s career moved at a rapid pace after he composed the music for the BBC series “Great Railway Journeys of the World” resulting in the composing of music for over 50 film and television productions.  His recording career has resulted in over 15 acclaimed albums including, the atmospheric “Spirit of Tibet,” the flute and Japanese instrumentation of “Zen” and the pure and inspiring “Spirit of Rainforest”.
