Laura Spawn Profile
Laura Spawn is co-founder and president of VirtualVocations, a job-listing compilation service founded in 2007 in Mohave County, Ariz., that has become one of the most trusted resources for people seeking high-quality, work-at-home jobs. More than 130,000 people have used VirtualVocations’ resources because the site provides fresh job listings (all fewer than 14 days old) for legitimate hourly or contractual work and it effectively filters out commission-only positions, start-your-own-business “opportunities” and jobs for which employers demand fees.
Spawn, a stay-at-home mom who provides customer service, résumé services and daily job updates, owns VirtualVocations, while her brother handles all programming and technical support. The site was designed to gather in one place information about diverse telecommuting positions from all areas of employment.
Spawn created the site based on her own experience as a mother of three who worked from home while attending college. After spending five or six hours a day sorting through the sea of scams and less-than-ideal jobs in pursuit of at-home work for herself, she realized that many others were probably doing the same thing – and that they could benefit from her experience.
Since scammers have overrun most of the major job sites on the Internet, it can be difficult to determine which positions are legitimate. “Our desire was to create a site that would offer all kinds of legitimate virtual positions to those who are interested in working from home,” comments Spawn.
“We also wanted to provide a site specifically for positions that paid by the hour or project, as well as salaried positions. In other words, we wanted to make sure that you would be applying for positions that would pay you for your time, not positions that offered start-your-own-business information or commission-based employment.”
VirtualVocations (virtualvocations.com) sifts through nearly four million online job listings, culling as many as 100 carefully selected jobs per day for its subscribers. In addition to filtering postings from leading job-search sites, VirtualVocations has access to positions from employers that submit openings directly to Spawn. Subscribers receive daily or weekly e-mail alerts and rely on VirtualVocations to do the important job-search legwork, leaving them free to concentrate on their current projects or home life.
We hope that you will find our site a valuable asset in your search for home employment!
