Dr. Josef A. Passley is a clinical psychologist practicing for over 13 years. He currently owns a private practice in Columbia, MD, Passley Consulting and Psychological Services, LLC, where he provides comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults that include psychotherapy, telephone coaching, and individual, couple, and group therapy. His background includes experience from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Sheppard & Enoch Pratt Psychiatric Hospital in which he provided mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults in individual and group therapy settings as well as inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and respite programs.
Dr. Passley is the author of two books. In the book Single Parenting in the 21st Century: A Single Mother’s Guide to Rearing Sons Without Fathers, Dr. Passley describes, from his practice and study of the literature, parenting practices that have not worked well for the single mother. He provides examples that describe effective ways to handle difficult situations which lead to improved and strengthened mother-son relationships. He also gives clear and simple rules for effective parenting and recommends how best to deal with the topic of the absent father. In the book, From Depression to Aggression: Understanding the Violent Life of Young Urban Males, Dr. Passley offers insight into one of our society’s greatest problems-violence among young urban males. Drawing from a study of 40 young men and their families, Passley discusses the issues surrounding the correlation between depression and aggression among these young men in many of our communities.
While a Senior Child/Adolescent Therapist at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, Dr. Passley served in various roles. He actively served as Clinical Co-Investigator in a Clinic-Based Intervention & Prevention Program for Families experiencing Depression. Dr. Passley also served as a consultant to the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKID) in Children study conducting psychological and educational assessments at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Passley also serves as an Educator in the graduate school programs at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Baltimore, and Lancaster Bible College where he shares his knowledge and expertise with working professional adults in subjects that include psychology, counseling, research, and human development.
