How to Stay Young Top 10 Anti-Aging List
1. Eat Whole Foods – Chemicals, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. Who needs them? Ditch boxed, packaged and convenience foods in favor of whole foods like fruits, vegetable, whole grains and fish. Read the nutritional guide on all your packaged goods. Eat organic food. Just because it is a whole food doesn’t mean that there are no chemicals. Eliminate as much chemicals as possible.
2. Get moving – Apply what you learned in high school physics: a body in motion stays in motion. Keep yours moving if you want to extend your life. Use it or lose it. Exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes. Not only does it keep you physical body in shape and extend your life – it keeps you mind healthy – releasing endorphins – creating a positive mindset.
3. Do Some Heavy Lifting – Strength training not only keeps you from hunching over as you get older, but it also helps prevent osteoporosis. Remember to have regular bone density tests and take your calcium!
4. Touch and be Touched – Research shows that babies who aren’t touched don’t thrive. Adults suffer from the same effect. No significant other? Book a Massage! Hug someone everyday. Research indicates that people with pets have less stress – get a dog!
5. Default to Yes – Longevity experts agree that maintaining social networks is critical as we age. The more activities, groups and classes you’re involved with the better (and longer) your life!
6. Help Others – Volunteering for causes that are important to you – or even just allowing a friend to bend you ear – can give you a mental boost and promote feelings of gratitude. Take a piece of paper and write down at least things you are grateful for today.
7. Live in the Moment – Experts claim that focusing on the here and now, and taking life one day at a time, helps you stay present, grounded and calm. An old adage states: “Yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a promissory note, today is cash, spend it wisely.” Be present!
8. Take a Mental Retreat – Spending just a few minutes a day imagining a peaceful scene floods you body with feel-good chemicals (of the natural type) that reduce stress, boost immunity and promote healing. Find a quiet space, put on some soothing background music and close your eyes! Go to that peaceful place.
9. Breathe – Monitoring and focusing on the breath is a healing mechanism that has been used for centuries. Take a deep breath in, fill you lungs as much as you can and slowly breath out. Focus on the inhalation and exhalation being the same length of time. Practice this for at least five minutes a day – it also helps to relax you before sleep.
10. Think Positive – Our thoughts become our lives.
“Watch your thoughts; they become your words.
Watch your words; they become your actions.
Watch your actions; they become your habits.
Watch your habits; they become your character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
