Why I love America is a daunting question and much harder to answer than it was in the middle of the 19th century. Those were the days of mom, apple pie, and family picnics in the park. Everything was a slower pace. We all felt safe and I was proud to be an American. I trusted America in every way. As time moved forward my confidence in the path of America makes me wonder how I could love a country that needs to control the world. Why do we need more than 200 military bases around the globe? Why do we need a police state and nearly two million prisoners in our prisons? How could I love a country that meddles in the affairs of every person here and every country in the world? In spite of that I still love America because the founding principles still linger. Is the chaos of our world is driving you crazy? Do you fear terrorists will blow up your house or business? Are you anxious that government wants to own your time and your life? A welcome break is Benjamin Hoff's book: "The Dao of Pooh" A trip into the philosophy of the secret wisdom of the ancient Dao supplied by A.A. Milne's venerable bear Winnie-the-Pooh is just the ticket to the life of people. I love this story as it reflects the personalities of ordinary people. While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates, Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is, a perfect life whose secret wisdom is to just to be. I loathe modern America as a country that is fearful, scared, apprehensive, worried, chaotic, and wasteful, money hungry, power hungry, and a long list of negative attributes. I love modern America as people who are kind, considerate, loving, affectionate, caring, devoted, and warm. That America is easy to love. - Dr. Bill Tallmon
