Why Energy Efficiency Training Is Giving You A Future

By: Erik

Expect to hear a lot more about energy efficiency as costs of all kinds of energy go up, whether fossil fuel-based or renewable.

Basically of course it refers to the concept of using less energy without necessarily changing the energy services you enjoy having. Now, whether keeping all we want is a recipe for a sustainable planet, and whether we would actually do that is another matter for another day.

Fact is that the International Energy Agency  for example, estimates that we could reduce global energy use by a third by using energy efficiency knowledge that we have now.  The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has also identified this as a key strategy in reducing carbon emissions and therefore slowing the global warming process.

It is accepted now that we will have cope with more weather extremes as a result of the warming that is already with us, for a very long time, even if we do manage to push less greenhouse gas into our atmosphere.

There too, being efficient in using energy by plugging the drafts, use energy-rated appliances, and use what we really need, will make us more resilient in living with climate change. As we must.

So, when you hear about the need for energy efficiency training, it’s really as much about training ourselves, as about job training.

The cost and effort in doing some of these courses is no longer a barrier to learning about being good at frugal energy use in your domestic or business situation. You may or may not then take that skill to the hungry market place for energy auditors.

What to look for in an energy audit training course? Consider these:

* Look for the kind of accreditation your study will earn you. Energy audit training is not regulated. Look for the best, usually who will let you know about the verifiable value of their accreditation;

* Look for flexibility. Some easy-entry courses let you get qualified to do 80% of audit work out there and enable a (usually more expensive) upgrade to taking on the remainder off heavy-duty energy audit work too;

* Online or offline face-to-face courses? It's really up to your personal preference. You know the pros and cons of the two already!

* Affordability. Don't give up if you think you cannot afford it. In that case there are some that offer financing options;

* Guarantees. Of course, your success is ultimately your responsibility. Still look for the type of guarantees your energy efficiency training course provider offers.

Money is energy too! And like with energy, use it smartly!

And this is as much an industry for women as for men. Common sense, remember!
