The other day I was watching Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story. Mr. Moore certainly has a way of depicting the different problems that are a part of American society. Watching that movie was a real eye opener and the points made were of no real surprise. America has an overwhelming force called greed that plagues the nation. I'm not saying that we should cease to encourage hard work and distribute all of the nation's wealth evenly to the people. In fact, that would cause nothing but more greed. Greed Isn’t Going Anywhere Greed is an unfortunate problem that will never be solved. There is a group of people that think things should be handed to them without any effort on their part. People like these will never cease to exist. That's why you can only be accountable for yourself and the things that you do. America's capitalistic ways and other issues aside, there are things that you just have to love about this country. When you step back and examine the lifestyles of people in other countries, you gotta love America. A Life of Freedom America is called the land of the free and the home of the brave. This description of America may not draw a complete picture of the nation but it is still accurate. That's why people come to America; for a life of freedom. You may never achieve a high economic status living here but you can walk around free to do many things that people in other nations can not. You're free to worship as you choose. You're free to express your opinion without fear of consequence. Yes, you are also free to pretty much come and go throughout America as you please. An Epiphany? While riding on the subway in New York I realized how blessed and free I really am. My ancestors were unable to lay claim to this freedom but I can. I'm free to do things like read my Bible on the train without fear of being arrested. I'm free to start my own business and earn extra money to care for my family. Freedom Came With Cost People had to die for this kind of freedom. It's something that we should never forget or take for granted. America's not perfect. She still needs work and more change. To neglect this would be a slap in the face of those who gave their lives for our freedom. There are still problems like racism that exist but it's 2010 and we now have a Black President. This is a great testament to American flexibility and openness to change. Yes, you gotta love America in spite of herself.
