I Love America Because I Am Grateful for the Many Blessings

The question has been asked, 'Why do I love America?' There are many reasons to love this great country. I love the many blessings I have that are not available in other countries. I wake up each morning knowing that the government supports me, regardless of many things, such as race, religion, sex, age, occupation, health or social status. Perhaps, the best reason to love America stems from the same principles by which the country was first formed. I am speaking specifically about the principles included in The Declaration of Independence.

In particular, let us review some key points and certain truths of that document:

  • All men are created equal

  • All men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights

  • Unalienable rights for men are:

  • o Life;
    o Liberty; and
    o Pursuit of Happiness
  • To secure rights, governments are instituted by men

  • Governments derive their powers from the consent of the governed

  • Whenever any form of government becomes destructive (with a long train of abuses and usurpations) to these ends

  • o It is the right of the people to alter or abolish the government; and
    o Institute a new government; and
    o Laying its foundation on such principles to effect their safety and happiness.

Scanning The Declaration of Independence, you can understand why America has thrived so successfully for over 200 years. Our ancestors founded our country on the spiritual principles of equality and the adherence to constructive, not destructive, attributes.

As far as equality, might you consider that instead of thinking of our Creator (or God) as being outside of us, that our forefathers understood the spiritual concept of being part of the whole of God. If God is everywhere, is He not inside of you? If that is the case, everyone is an equal part of that whole. Under these circumstances, no oppression can exist because there is no judgment, as judgment is a state where one assumes either superiority or inferiority to another.

Furthermore, The Declaration of Independence speaks directly to the point of avoiding destructive tendencies. Therefore, the original signers of that document were promoting the constructive attributes that live within each of us. These include love, understanding, compassion, honor, honesty and humility.

Yes, I love America. Many can say that America is best loved because of the freedoms we are afforded. However, those human rights and freedoms would not be possible if primarily, we did not hold fast to the spiritual gifts and principles this great country was founded upon. Therefore, I am very grateful to our founding fathers for their foresight of forming our country based upon a greater, spiritual plan, which have allowed us our freedoms.
