How Can Homeschoolers Access The SAT And ACT?

"I have a question.... If we are homeschooling highschool,, how do we make arrangements to take the SAT and similar tests? Who do we call?"
~ Michele

Here is what I love most about The College Board. Their article "Home Schooled Students and the SAT"

That one article on the CollegeBoard website was so encouraging to me.

- It shows that homeschoolers are mainstream.
- It conveys their acceptance of our schooling choice.
- It tells you everything you need to know about registration.
- It eliminates the fear of harming your child.
- It's a quick read for parents that need quick answers.

You may sometimes feel "strange" as a homeschooler. Public schools can particularly be difficult, and interacting with them is challenging. But accessing the college admission tests is MUCH easier than interacting with high schools for other reasons.

In some states there are laws requiring that public schools allow homeschoolers to test with college admission tests. In other states it's not required, but still commonplace.

Contact the SAT people

Contact the ACT people

Then contact a local public or private high school office by telephone. "I'm a homeschool parent. How can I register for my child for the SAT or ACT at your school?" You can shop around if necessary, but most schools are more than happy to take your money!

Registering for the tests is not difficult. Just call. Talk like they you are talking to a two year old: a motherly, matter-of-fact tone of voice goes a long way.

Blessings,
Lee
