An Interview with Dr. Arnold K. Chernoff on Dental Implants.

Dr. Arnold K. Chernoff is a dentist and has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Dental Implants.

Q.  What factors might prevent me from becoming an implant candidate?

A.  Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry.  Now if one or more teeth are missing we are able to place an artificial tooth root (the dental implant) into the jaw where it becomes anchored. Then we place an artificial tooth on this artificial root.  We can rebuild many different mouths using this technique. In order to do this you must have bone available to place the implant.

You must control the biting forces on the implant so an analysis of the bite must be done. Also there are different types of bone and we need to make sure that the bone we are placing the implant has the characteristics that will support the implant
It would be a big advantage if the patient is a non smoker and in good health.

Q.  How often will I need my implants checked?

A.  Implants need to be checked just like your regular teeth every 6 months at the time that you get your teeth cleaned we usually check the implants

Q.  Is dental implant surgery painful?

A.  I sounds like it would be painful when you explain what you intend to do.  But surprisingly it is much better than people expect.  I remember a situation when we placed 2 implants into a physicians jaw. He expected to be very sore and so he cancelled his patients for that day.  After the placement he felt fine and went back to seeing patients.  He was very surprised.

Q.  Is there any pain after the anesthetic wears off?

A.  There is less pain than if you had a tooth removed.

Q.  How can we contact Dr. Chernoff if we have further questions?

A.
