Do you have a business routine? Set hours? Set days off?
Some people thrive on routine; others just ride on the waves of life. When running a business, it’s obvious that some routine is required. Let’s see to what degree our Mom Entrepreneurs stick to a routine.

Yes, absolutely! I typically work 8 – 5 but we do work late some nights and earlier some mornings. With our business, we do what we have to do to take care of our clients. We have evenings and weekends off! We are also able to do things most working parents cannot during the daytime hours at our children’s school, etc. Sandy Louth, Admin Specialties

I have struggled with this over the years because of my own personality, but I do find that I have a much stronger business when I work on a set schedule! I try to work mainly in the afternoons when my younger son is napping and my older one is in school – that is just what works for me. Liz Hawkinson, Usborne Books at Home

Mostly I try to make sure that naptime is when I do the bulk of my work. I also take 1 or 2 nights a week and instead of watching T.V., I work into the late evening.

E-mails and online work in the morning for a ½ hour or hour, 2 hours of work during his nap, maybe an hour before supper and then some time in the evening after he’s gone to bed. I try not to work weekends and won’t make phone calls then, but I may send e-mails or do work online if I have the time. That way I don’t have so much catching up to do on Monday.

Well, it isn't a cut and dry routine, but I do have one. My son attends Pre-K, now, so I wake up early with him so I can take him to school. When I return home, my daughter goes back to sleep and I have at least an hour of complete silence to work in. I work on and off until I have to pick my son up from school in the afternoon. Then, I spend time with my children and return after we all eat dinner. I typically work for the majority of the night, until about 10 or 11 pm. I sleep and start my day all over again.
I try to save my weekends for my family. However, I do work if I am behind or a client has an emergency. So, while I have a routine planned, it isn't set in stone. Susan Mc Cool |
