Basic Steps in Writing a Book |
Have you read through so many books and do you like to give a try at writing a book? But how do you write an award winning book? Does just pen and paper do the work?
Try to follow the following steps towards success in your book writing attempts.
Start with working out a practical topic. Decide on it by finding out what people are seeking for as reading material but rarely available or what topics have more demand. Think of a new way you can present even an old work of art. And finally decide whether you are capable of writing on that topic. Are you knowledgeable in that area, if not do your research or find another topic which you are confident you are good at.
Work on your confidence by reassuring yourself of how good a writer / researcher you are. Work on your dedication towards a successful assignment. Assure yourself of your knowledge in the area, and work out a schedule so that you will manage your budget, time, resources and work well. Start with the motivation of carrying out a good promotion for your book and be prepared with material required to start your task. Strive to stay organized throughout your project so that you will not get stressed or annoyed at any point of work.
Take time to prepare an eye catching book proposal to lead you on your journey to success. A basic book proposal should contain a cover letter, title page, concept statement, book overview, Authors, Suggested back cover text, the market, the competition, production details, Promotion, table of contents, chapter summaries, sample chapters, appendix and reference.
Get a literary agent if you want faster results as publishers presume that literary work coming through an agent has been screened well for precision, quality and marketability. And as it is, literary agents do look for clarity in your written language, your dedication towards work, curiosity, originality and creativity, a good narrative structure and knowledge about the market.
Congratulations if you got the contract with a publisher, but don’t relax just yet. This is just the beginning. You have a long way to go to prove to the publisher that he was not wrong in taking a chance on you. Strive to prove it and back up all your claims that you are good, talented and will sell lots of books. Get actively involved in marketing your book!
Words of the wise, while you are at the task, reflect back often on whether you have kept the spotlight on your basic theme and character and not wandered away. Have you given your characters life through your words? Is there a change in the main character from the start of the story, as it only then it adds meaning to the whole tale.
Give excitement to the reader always, through the words you write which give life to your story. Always keep pondering throughout your creation, ‘Is this as good as I can make it?’ |
