TV as a Source of News - Always

There was a time when the radio was the most common source of news. People would crowd around a radio, listening to the news broadcast that would take place only at particular times. If you happened to miss it, then you’d have to wait for the next news bulletin (which may be hours away), but these days the news is always on on television.

The most important thing to be noted here is that there were barely any visuals of things going on around the world. The newspapers did have some photos, but not like how they do today. You could visualize what’s happening in the other side of the world based on what the news reporter or the newspaper tells you.

However, the invention of the TV has ensured that news from every nook and corner of the world is made available to us at any time of the day. Gone are the days when you had to wait for the news bulletin which would take place only twice a day. Now you have channels which are dedicated to providing news round – the – clock. You can see what’s happening in the warfields in Afghanistan, the election campaigns taking place around the country, or the size of the nuclear plants in Iran. Some news such as the destruction of the WTC Twin Towers by plane hijackers can be quite hard to believe, but the fact that the news was complemented by visuals gave people a very good idea of how grave the effect of the attack was.

There are some channels which are dedicated to providing particular types of news such as the ‘Fox Business Network’, which provides all the latest news in business, including real – time coverage of what’s happening at Wall Street.
