In this very dynamic world of today, people work very hard to earn their living and survive. They work hard enough to earn the bread and butter for their families, and after every day of work, there’s no doubt that they are going to be tired and stressed out. Most people, after a long day of work would either listen to the radio while they are on their way back home, or probably play one of their favorite musical tracks on their mp3 or CD player. Why is this so and what purpose does it serve?
Well, the answer is simple. Music helps to relieve someone off of the pain and stress maybe after a tiresome day of work or some unpleasant experience such as a break-up. The use of music to help one relieve of pain and stress is known as music therapy, and this article gives information on music therapy. In other words, Music therapy is a method of treatment (that makes use of songs and music) used to deal with problems, issues, and physical, psychological, and physiological needs of those individuals with sicknesses and disabilities.
This is a very well-known method of healing and medication (used lately) to aid those people suffering from stress-related disorders, autism, eating and sleeping disorders (insomnia), drug and alcohol addiction, or anorexia. The nature of music is such that it helps to ease, relieve and pacify an individual, and consequently recover and cure wounded minds. It is supposed to improve behavior and communication, and also lay the floor for open-expression of opinions and emotions.
Music therapy has been a huge hit as it has (or rather possesses) the ability to make well, mend and heal minds that are ripped and hurt, which other means of communication such as speeches (in the form of counseling) are unable to do. Music is a universal language and any person, no matter where they are from and which situation or circumstance they are in; would be able to listen, realize, experience and appreciate the musical variations in it. It is believed that those individuals who are diagnosed of unresponsiveness and insensitivity, for example those suffering from cancers and comas could be enthused and stimulated by playing songs and music.
For those who are hesitant to express their opinions, feelings and emotions verbally and openly, music is a good method since it enables them to express their feelings and emotions freely and openly. By doing so, their stress levels would reduce along with other pressures and worries, which would help ease themselves up and recover quickly. Music therapy, not only helps one alleviate one of emotional distress, but also helps in lowering the risks of heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes, whilst improving respiration and muscle functionality.
Sessions of Music therapy include playing musical pieces, singing songs and the playing of musical instruments such as a guitar or a flute. By giving the sufferer a chance to sing, play musical instruments and devices and write lyrics, it would help them relieve their levels of stress and pain, since it helps the quick and easy expression of those held back feelings.
Music therapy is often conducted by well-trained, specialist music therapists, who would organize a plan of the therapy sessions after spotting the problems, concerns, issues, and (at the same time) after understanding the victim’s musical taste. It is guaranteed that the patient will recover soon when they are given the best treatment. |
