Don't Wait For the Movie, Reading the Book is Better

Have you seen your friends or family buried in a book and wondered aloud why bother reading when you can see the movie? Did you ever get a good answer to why they read rather than watch? Some of them who read and have watched the movie in line with the story, would have commented at some part as to ‘I like the book better’ Did you ever take the time to analyze as to why they tend to respond this way?

Well if you had ever read a book and seen the same story as a movie you would know the answer. If you haven't, read on and see why the topic says; 'Don't wait for the movie, reading the book is better!'

To begin with, one cannot really say books are better than movies as they are two different media sources and both have their plus and minus points. And it is in them the difference is felt, but again, not to all viewers/readers.

Usually people tend to read the book before the movie comes out. Thus they have build in their minds eye a picture according to the narrative of the book. After days of being buried in a 500 to 700 page book, the movie will be released. As is the nature of movies, they have a time limitation. What the script writer is forced to do then is to scrap off parts of the story which he thinks doesn’t affect the main story. This is one reason you should read the book, whether you watch the movie or not, because if not you will be missing out a lot.

The way of words still has more power in creating different situations described in words to generate more clear pictures in your mind. But a movie has its limitations and cannot always meet your expectations to feast your physical eye, as a book does to your minds eye.

Have you seen all books made into films? Not really, because usually only the good books are turned into movies. Imagine, if you thought the movie was good, think how much better the book would be?

In the end both methods are two ways of experiencing the same story. Which ever you prefer, do justice to the other as much as possible, as only then would you get the full experience of the trouble the writer and later the script writer put their hearts into.

Books give you somewhat freedom to build your own picture of characters, settings, color, etc. But in the movie you would not be tapping your imagination as it is all laid down for you.

If you are not in the habit of reading then these are good reasons to start, as you have been missing out on a lot.
