Modern Technology and the Best TV sets |
The effects of modern technology have been felt everywhere, and the Television industry has been no exception, producing some of the best TV sets in the process. It’s amazing to think how something like the TV, which was just a luxury some decades ago, has now become a necessity that any person who gets a new house will want to adorn it with a TV before thinking of buying something else.
One of the biggest changes in television in recent years have come in the form of cable TV. The demand for channels seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and some cable TV providers are providing nearly 200 channels, most of them being HDTV, in line with customer demand. Some providers even have a ‘video-on-demand’ service, whereby the customer is confronted with a list of programmes, from which he can select the one he wishes to watch and then watch it immediately. You can also view the schedule for the particular day for each channel, as well as put parental locks on channels to prevent your children from watching them.
Other than those mentioned above, we now have the ‘home theatre’ system, which basically has the effect of reproducing the theatre effects in your own hall. It’s sold as a set and generally includes a TV with a big screen, a couple of tall speakers to sit beside the TV, and some additional speakers to be placed around the hall to give the effect of hearing the sound from every part of the hall. It really is amazing, and you end up having a much more comfortable experience than that you would have in an actual theatre.
Though still not very widely used as yet, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is also starting to make waves in the television industry. This involves the channels being sent through a network infrastructure (generally a broadband connection) through to the final customer. This has an added advantage over cable TV in that the customer can select what he wants, and only those channels appear on his computer, whereas, in the case of cable TV, we get a whole load of channels, some of which may be quite unnecessary.
In some countries, mobile carriers have started to provide customers the facility to watch TV if they are equipped with a 3G enabled phone, which really is such a great facility as you won’t be suffering from ‘TV withdrawal symptoms’! |
