Music is a universal language and is something very special, and loved by everybody of all ages due to its ability to better things up, no matter what the situation is. Music has evolved over time and has now reached heights with it being associated with media and technology. In other words, improvements in media and technology have helped develop/ improve music in every aspect. This article aims to explain how media and technology today has helped the improvement of music. In the early days, music could only be heard live, that is, whenever a musician performed it live on a stage or so. But now, there are several media available through which one could hear great musical compositions. Live music played by artistes and musicians can now be heard on a radio, television and also over the Internet, live or recorded. Media and technology has developed to such a great extent that a musical piece could be composed with ease without even using any of the instruments needed to produce those respective sounds. There are both basic and sophisticated software that enables the production of good quality music. The live played music too could be changed so as to add more light to that musical piece. In other words, a musical composition played live can be changed, edited, and even mixed so as to produce a great piece of music, which sometimes may be even better than the original piece. It was in the early 20th century that technology started to improve and new media were invented. It was during this period talking pictures (with prerecorded musical tracks) emerged, and this forced most of the live orchestra performers out of jobs. This is even evident at present, since people hire DJs (Disc Jockeys) or uses their computers to play music at an occasion, in place of having a band or group of musicians perform for them. In the 21st century however, the significance of live performance has marginally reduced due to the fact that new technology has replaced live play of music. Every household has its own radio, television and CD/ DVD/ MP3 player, which enable them to listen and enjoy their favorite music without having to go to a theater or a musical hall. Due to this fact, many musicians use technology in their musical compositions to gain an advantage and to add some spice and color to the music they create. Most musicians use scratching by disc jockeys in the background, and most of the artistes end up creating computer music and synthesizing the original voice. Musicians in the early days played their music live, and that was it. But nowadays, they have it recorded and they even have their own videos that are played along with the music. The development in media and technology has gone to such an extent that the singer or musician does not have to sing or play the song or musical piece again. Instead, a prerecorded tape is being played, and most of the current singers end up lip-synching even when they perform on a stage. Computer technology is being heavily used along with other hi-tech instruments, which could be programmed easily to produce and play MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) music. In addition to those, people could use sources in the internet to produce and listen to musical compositions and the audience (people) could even become performers by way of participating in Karaoke sessions, where the performer could sing the song by looking at the lyrics displayed on the screen, whilst voice-eliminated versions of music is being played in the background
