The Academy Awards are presented each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and are considered as the crowning glory for actors, producers, directors and crew. Commonly known as the Oscars, they give out the best film awards, but the public doesn’t always agree with the decisions. The BFCA is the largest organization of film critics in North America, voiced by nearly 200 critics in all media fields. These awards are presented annually too. The National Board of Review Awards have been around for nearly a century and their host is a non-profit organization. It’s dedicated in its efforts to support film, both local and foreign. As many as 300 films are reviewed annually by the NBR members, who are experienced film critics, academics, aspiring film professionals and New York students. Both film and television productions are acknowledged by Golden Globe Awards. They were offered since 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Awardees are selected by over 80 film journalists, most of them who work part-time with the HFPA. The Awards night is the most watched after the Oscars. The annual Directors Guild of America Awards honor outstanding directorial efforts in the film industry. Winners typically go on to win the Academy Award for Best Director, so the decisions of the DGA are much anticipated. he Music Television (MTV) channel annually presents MTV Movie Awards for which the nominees are decided by a panel from Tenth Planet Productions. Winners are chosen by the general public who vote online. These Awards are mostly based on fan appeal and are not synonymous with critical acclaim. NAACP Image Awards are decided by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. They recognize exceptional performances by people of color. Independent Spirit Awards are offered by a non-profit organization called Film Independent that dedicates its service to independent films and independent film makers. The British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) are the British equivalent of the Oscars. They are awarded each year recognizing outstanding work of the British and other nationalities.
