An Interview with Dr. Raymond J. Konior on Hair Transplant.

Dr. Raymond J. Konior is  a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Hair transplant.

Q. Does hair transplant look Natural?

A. The technique I use assures that the final result will be an undetectable result.  Many of my patients boast that their hair dressers or stylists are not able to distinguish the surgically restored hair from the native hair.

Q. How long does it take to recover from hair transplant surgery?

A. Most patients are easily able to return to a normal lifestyle within one week of the procedure.  Complete undetectability is the norm within two weeks.

Q. What are the types of hair transplants you perform?

A. Restoration of diffuse thinning in the hairline region, lowering of a high hairline, repair of facelift scars at the hairline and sideburn, eyebrow restoration.  My technique utilizes ultrarefined, microscopically dissected follicular-unit grafting to assure the most natural results.  The majority of the grafts that are used have only one or two hairs, which is why the final result looks so natural.

Q. Are the options for combating Hair loss in men different from women?

A. The surgical options are basically the same, but men have the option of using Propecia as a medical means for stabilizing their hair loss.  Women have a greater likelihood of having a medical condition that contributes to their hair loss.  Conditions such as an anemic disorder, thyroid dysfunction, vitamin deficiency or a collagen vascular disorder have to be ruled out prior to considering surgery.

Q. Are there complications or risks in a hair transplant?

A. There are risks with all types of surgery.  However, the risks associated with well performed surgery are extraordinarily low.  I have yet to see a bleeding problem, an infection or a significant scarring problem in over 20 years of practice.

Q. If a client has already had a transplant with another doctor and is disappointed with the results, can it be redone?

A. A repair is possible as long as there is sufficient donor hair available to complete the process.  Donor hair is limited to the sides and back of the head and the patient must have a reasonable baseline density so that sufficient graft material can be harvested.
