A. Ideal candidate for tummy tuck is someone who does not smoke, no longer planning on pregnancy, and not excessively heavy. A person who had a few pregnancies with loose hanging stretchmark-filled abdominal tissue will be an ideal candidate.
Q. How is a tummy tuck performed?
A. Tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia. Abdominal tissue from umbilicus to pubis is usually excised.
Q. Are there risks and complications to a tummy tuck?
A. There are always risks with any surgery. Tummy tuck is certainly not lunch break procedure. Risks include bleeding, infection, seroma formation, deep venous thrombosis, skin break-down, anesthesia risks etc.
Q. What should one expect after the operation?
A. After the surgery, one will feel a bit tight at abdomen. I like to leave two drains for 5 to 7 days. I usually tell my patients to stay off work for 2 to 4 weeks.
