Dr. Jamson C. Wu is an Orthodontist and has answered some common questions that Bizymoms visitors have about Braces.
Q. Will it hurt to apply the braces?
A. In general, it does not hurt to have braces placed. We use the most current bonding techniques available that have really sped up the process as well as making it as painless and easy as possible.
Q. What holds the braces in place?
A. Braces are generally bonded to the front of each tooth with a special orthodontic adhesive that is designed to bond onto the tooth surface very securely, but will also allow us to remove them without any damage to the tooth surface.
Q. Will my child have any limitations with braces?
A. Most children have very few limitations with braces. Most, if not all patients with braces lead their lives just as they did before they had their braces placed and participate in all of the activities that they have in the past as well. We do request that our patients with braces try and avoid hard, sticky, crunchy, and chewy foods that could potentially damages the braces and or wires.
Q. What happens if my child swallows a part from their braces?
A. If a child swallows a part of their braces, all of our patients are instructed to call us immediately. We offer 24 hour on call doctor response, and we will assess each situation as it arises. Fortunately, it is rare that a patient will accidentally swallow any part of their braces and even when it has happened, there have been no patients that have sustained any long term negative consequences.
