About Educational Grants

Educational grants help students pay their tuition fees, where the monetary assistance comes from the federal government. This assistance can be obtained by writing for an educational grant, explaining why the student requires the assistance and how it will benefit both the student and their community. Students wishing to obtain grants should research the different educational grants available and decide which ones best fit their needs.

Private college grants

While most of the private colleges are more expensive than the State Colleges, private college grants are not impossible to find. Religious institutions too offer private college grants, Usually private college grants will be lesser in value than Governments grants...

Did you know grants are available for private college students as well?

While most of the private colleges are more expensive than the State Colleges, private college grants are not impossible to find.

Private colleges are in the region of $21,000 per annum for tuition only and with other additional costs of living, books, insurance etc it would be so much more. College education is unaffordable to majority of the citizens and can be achieved only if there is sufficient financial assistance by way of scholarships, grants and student loans. While Scholarships and grants are free money, student loans are repayable and you are likely to do for most part of your life. If you apply to a private college, you will be surprised that they do offer many private college grants and scholarships to deserving students.

In State universities grants and scholarships are awarded through the Federal government and the State, mostly based on the need and of course an eligible G.P.A. usually a minimum of 3.0 is required.  In private colleges it is a different scenario altogether. Variables differ and without doubt the deciding factor is the academic status in high school which will be the key determiner combining with the class standing of the student, standardize test score results and extra curricular activities of the student. The higher the GPA and the SAT or ACT score, the greater are the chances of being awarded grants and scholarships which is not necessarily based only on need. However, if all other requirements are met it is likely that such a candidate in need would be considered above others.

Some Private Colleges combine a portion of marks for academic achievements and another portion for extra curricular activities e.g. 50% will be given for academic achievements such as GPA, standardized test score results and class standing while another 50% is separated for extra curricular activities i.e. sports, music, theatre & art etc. The total marks will be combined to give a score from 100%.  Most private colleges encourage students who combine studies and extra curricular activities and it is for this reason that the decisions are made on combined marks. If the extra curricular activity concerned is an activity for which the college is well known, it is likely that more emphasis would be paid for such students when assessing the combination mark system.  Therefore it is important while excelling in studies to also excel in some form of extra curricular activity.

There are many religious private colleges and they award private college grants to students who have demonstrated active involvement in the religious institution that is affiliated to the college in question,  or of the same denomination as the private college. For example there are many Baptist, Jewish, Catholic, and other Christian denominations who have private colleges which is supportive of their believers and as an encouragement is likely to offer grants and scholarships.

Private colleges are also run by minorities and ethnicities such as African-Americans and Hispanics in particular and their emphasis is to provide private college grants to deserving eligible students of their ethnicity to encourage them to pursue higher education.

While grants in private colleges are relatively less than in state universities, private college grants are still available and can be very generous for deserving students.
