College education is incredibly expensive and unaffordable to an average American, with Indiana citizens being no exception. However, due to several financial assistance available to American students it is possible for any student to realize their dreams of going to college.
In Indiana college grants are numerous and need to be researched well in advance and is granted to those students who meet the criteria and may very well be limited according to the availability of funds, especially the non State funded grants.
Indiana College Grants are awarded to students who are Indiana residents and who attend Indiana universities, usually for a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. These grants are awarded to those in financial need and have filed the FAFSA application and is eligible for obtaining the Indiana Higher Education Grants which are sourced by the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI).
Some of the College Grants include:
The Frank O’Bannon Grant, also known as the Indiana Higher Education Grant which is awarded by the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana to full time students who are economically disadvantaged.
A College Grant is available for Indiana students who are members of the National Guard based on specified criteria.
A College Grant is also available for part time students as well as those who are pursing to obtain certificates at Ivy Tech State College and are still in need of funding.
Children of veterans who were wounded or killed in action or who have received purple hearts as well as children whose parents were public safety officials wounded or killed in action are also eligible for specific College Grants relevant to this criteria.
Indiana College Grants Offered to students enrolled to the Indiana College include:
Child of Disabled Veteran Grant or Purple Heart Recipient - Grant offered to several graduate and undergraduate students with varied amounts.
Department of Veterans Affairs Free Tuition for Children of POW/MIAs in Vietnam – varied amounts offered to graduate and undergraduate students.
Frank O’Bannon Grant Program – College Grants of $200 to $4700 offered to 38,000 to 43,660 undergraduate students.
Part Time Grant – College Grants of $50 to $4,00 awarded to 4,680 to 6,700 undergraduate students
The Indiana Minority Teacher Scholarship – is awarded to Black and Hispanic teachers in Indiana.
There are several College Grants available to all students across the nation including the State of Indiana which are offered by the Federal government which include
Pell Grant which is offered to low income students,
the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant program awarded to students with most need,
the Academic Competitiveness (AC) Grant is also available for students who are eligible to receive a Pell Grant who are demonstrated academic skills and is granted over and above any other grants a student may receive,
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (Smart) Grant which is awarded to students who are eligible for Pell Grants and who are majoring in physical science, computer sciences, mathematics, technology or engineering or a foreign language which has been identified as critical to national security.
There are many other College Grant opportunities available in Indiana which will be specific to the College or University which is not common to all the universities in this state. |
