With emphasis on value of education than ever before, the federal government spends an enormous amount to support the No Child Left Behind Act, making available numerous college grants to defray unaffordable higher educational costs.
The criteria for Community College Grants are similar to that of all College Grants awarded by the State and the Federal government, as the main criteria would be need base and with some being on merit base. A combination of need and merit base category would undoubtedly be the first choice for college grants. Students are however, vary of obtaining student loans as it would take most part of their life to pay it back. Therefore it is imperative to collect as many grants as possible to pay for your educational costs. FAFSA process is always the first option and collecting Community College Grants is much easier than collecting grants for a four year degree course as the amount required is much less than the amount for a college degree.
The College Grants disbursed by the Federal government include Pell Grant which is offered to low income students, the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant program awarded to students with most need, the Academic Competitiveness (AC) Grant is also available for students who are eligible to receive a Pell Grant who are demonstrated academic skills and is granted over and above any other grants a student may receive, National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (Smart) Grant which is awarded to students who are eligible for Pell Grants and who are majoring in physical science, computer sciences, mathematics, technology or engineering or a foreign language which has been identified as critical to national security.
Apart from these grants, Community College Grants in the form of scholarships are awarded by public and private sectors, individuals and trusts, local communication organizations, associations, religious organizations such as Catholics, Christians, Jewish or Islam and grants based on ethnicity awarded by African-American and Hispanics affinities and the Community College itself.
There are more grants available for educational programs which are considered critical for the country. One such example is the health sector where nursing is considered critically needed sector and therefore the State as well as private sector especially those who are affiliated to the health industry provide many grants to bridge this imbalance.
Community College Grants are available to all students on a need and merit basis to help them pursue them higher education aspirations and you just need to know where to look for them and therefore it is essential that you start your search early as most of these grants are awarded on a first come first served basis. |
