“Physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”
~Joseph Pilates (Inventor of the Pilates form of exercise)
We’re constantly bombarded with information that supports the benefits of exercise and a healthy diet. The benefits of a diet are maximized almost tenfold, when combined with physical exercise.
The Mayo-Clinic lists seven benefits of regular exercise as follows;
Exercise improves your mood.
Exercise combats chronic illnesses.
Exercise helps you manage your weight.
Exercise strengthens your heart and lungs.
Exercise promotes better sleep.
Exercise can put the spark back into your sex life.
Exercise can be fun.
Need I say more? Still, people manage to find excuses not to exercise. The most common excuse is “where’s the time for exercise?” Today, it’s even more important that exercise becomes a part of your daily routine. This is because with the advent of modern technology it has become easier to get “stuck in the rut” of a sedentary lifestyle.
“Those who think that they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”
~ Edward Stanley
In today’s competitive world; stress levels are at an all time high and confidence levels are at an all time low. People are constantly looking for ways to feel good about themselves, and to relieve themselves of the stress that eats away at their minds and bodies. Some people turn to drugs, not realizing that to help combat stress, there are few drugs as potent as exercise. Exercise causes the release of endorphins in your body. Endorphins are “feel-good” hormones. Exercise also helps you stay in better shape. Once you start exercising regularly you will find that you’re looking better. You will also find that most often than not; you’re in a good mood! All this will definitely give your self esteem a major boost. These new, improved levels of confidence and energy also mean that your sex life gets better.
Regular physical exercise will help guard your body against most chronic illnesses. This is because exercise strengthens the major organs and improves blood circulation in your body. It also enables better lymphatic drainage, which means that your immune system functions at its peak.
Regular physical activity also means that you’ll have more energy to get through your day with more enthusiasm. And at the end of your busy day you will be able to enjoy a good night’s sleep. Because exercise will help you sleep better too!
“All parts of the body which have a function, if used in moderation and exercised in labors in which each is accustomed; become thereby healthy, well developed and age more slowly. But if unused, they become liable to disease, defective in growth, and age quickly.”
~Hippocrates |
