About healthy food

Gaining control of your life through healthy habits will help you be happier, stronger and live a healthy life.

What are Healthy Food

Well, a very elementary question, and an equally elementary answer would be “foods which are healthy”! Actually, if I started the journey of defining healthy foods, it would be so complicated that I might be thrown into the loony bin by my neighbours halfway through doing so! J

Well, which foods are healthy and which are not? Well, its quite a difficult task listing the unhealthy ones, so I think it would make mine and your life easier if I listed the healthy foods for you, and why they’re considered as healthy:

1. Apricots

Apricots have plenty of beta – carotene, which prevents free – radical damage, and helps out your eyes. Add to this the fact that our body can turn beta – carotene into vitamin A, which means that you can also avoid particular types of cancer, especially to the skin.

2. Avocados

Avocados contain Oleic Acid, a type of unsaturated fat which helps reduce cholesterol levels and increase the amount of fibre in your body. A couple of slices of avocado would serve as a more healthy dressing alternative than mayonnaise for your burger.

3. Raspberries

Raspberries have ellagic acid, which slows down the growth of cancer – cells. The Vitamin C and fiber packed into raspberries makes sure that the chances of you suffering from cholesterol and heart disease reduces. Use raspberries as a topping for low – fat yoghurt or oatmeal.

4. Cantaloupe

A cantaloupe has 4 times the amount of Vitamin C that is recommended for daily dose and also has beta – carotene, both of which are very powerful antioxidants. Half a cantaloupe has 2 times more potassium than a banana, which ensures that your blood pressure reduces. Cut some cantaloupes into small cubes, freeze them and use them to make an icy smoothie.

5. Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice helps you fight bladder infections by preventing harmful bacteria from accumulating in your body. Try to get some 100% concentrated cranberry juice from your local mall, and use it for your daily liquid requirements. You can avoid sugary drinks by drinking this!

6. Tomato

Tomatoes contain lycopene, which acts as an antioxidant. The risk of bladder and stomach cancer can be cut down by half if you consume tomatoes daily. Season your tomatoes with some olive oil, because lycopene is better absorbed by your body when eaten with some fat.

7. Raisins

In addition to being an all – time favourite seasoning, raisins are a great source of iron, and aids the blood in transporting oxygen.
