A Healthy Diet and Exercise |
|
If you neglect your body, your mind isn't going to perform at its peak. You won't be achieving the desired results in your daily activities and to top it all off, you won't look good either- which is definitely going to take a toll on your self esteem, specially since today, everyone is in a rat race, and it's not just up the corporate ladder. There's competition everywhere, which consequently makes everyone a whole lot more self conscious. It's never too late to start taking care of yourself and the best way to do it would be to incorporate a healthy diet and exercise routine into your daily life.
Watch what you eat and drink, plenty of water every day to help flush out those toxins in your body. Replace junk foods with healthier alternatives and snack on fruits and vegetables. Eat more proteins and less carbohydrates, proteins help build muscle mass and help keep your skin, hair and nails healthy. Consume antioxidant rich foods that help fight free radicals in your body. Foods rich in antioxidants are fruits and vegetables, green tea, nuts like almonds and Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds and according to the latest research- even chocolate! These foods also help our body detoxify.
Be careful not to overeat, it's always better to eat only when you're hungry or you tend to fall into a pattern of careless eating. You can afford to indulge once in a while, as long as you remember that "once-in-a-while" doesn't occur too often.
Many rely on diet alone, while this may allow you to lose weight and does have its benefits; the benefits are far less compared to what you could achieve by incorporating exercise into your daily routine. Exercise helps increase longevity by improving your overall health and helping you combat chronic illnesses. It also helps you lose weight, strengthens your heart and lungs, increases bone strength and helps improve your moods by increasing the endorphin levels in your body. Exercise also means an improved sex life, because it increases your energy levels and boosts your self confidence. If you're just starting out, remember that you aren't training for the Olympics. Start with just 15-20 minutes of mild exercise. Even a daily round of 25 minutes on a treadmill can do wonders if you're consistent in your routine.
Whatever your exercise routine, consistency is important. A little research will show you that you've got a wide range of exercise-methods to choose from. If aerobics aren't your thing try going for yoga or Pilates, if a quick fix is what you're looking for, try jumping rope, this has been found to be a really good overall-body work-out. No matter how busy you are there's just no excuse because as Joseph Pilates once said, "physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure". |
