How to Choose a Good Gym |
|
1. Location
Make sure to locate a gym which is in the vicinity to your home or office. Often, people stop going to the gym after a couple of months because the walk back home can be extremely tiring if it's really far away. You therefore tend to give up, even before you actually see a result.
2. Membership Fee
In most cases, the better gyms don't really charge high fees for membership. Therefore, don't be too shy to go ahead and join them.
Always know what you exactly need from the gym, and thereby the amount you pay. If you just want to do some light weight - exercises but are being charged for the other facilities such as basketball court and the swimming pool, you may want to skip to a smaller gym. Most gyms tend to justify charging more by putting up equipments which you may not even use!
One more thing, if a gym closer to your place charges more than one which is far away, you still should choose the more expensive one because you won't be giving it up!
3. Quality
If the gym isn't exactly clean, and the equipment looks really tired and worn out, it may not be a very good idea to work out there. Good examples are cardio machines with different noises and rusty dumbbells. This doesn't mean that the equipment should be new, you should make sure it's maintained properly.
4. Qualified and friendly staff
Whenever you go to a gym, make sure you look at the following:
- Whether the instructors are appropriately qualified
- Whether the salesmen are trying hard to sell the subscription by emphasizing more on their commission rather than be concerned about you getting fitter and healthier.
- Whether there are pleasant front - desk people? A grouchy face at the entrance may effectively ruin your day at the gym.
5. Membership numbers
If the gym is full of people when you go to work out, then you may not have a pleasant experience because nobody likes to wait for a turn at the equipment. You can either visit the gym at a different time or find a gym with less members.
6. Changing rooms and lockers
There are gyms which have spacious changing rooms so that you don't feel too uncomfortable when changing clothes. At the same time, you get the gyms which have changing rooms as small as closets. Some gyms even offer lockers.
7. Trial Visit
Don't go for the salesperson's bluff and pay for the membership when you visit the gym for the first time. Try to get a trial visit pass for a week, and make sure you use the pass wisely as you may start to realize the small things that didn't occur to you before. Secondly, salespersons will always try to get as much money as they can out of you, so make sure you have a particular budget in mind, and stick to it. |
