Food for Brain Power

Studies have showed that there are certain types of foods which can increase energy, stimulate focused thoughts and increase your motivation without killing your body. No, these foods aren't stuff that are obtained through some 'dark magic' or something like that, neither is it hard to obtain. It's all there in the 'vegetables' section of your grocery store, and they aren't as expensive as those candy bars and sodas that you constantly consume.

Studies have also concluded that proteins and carbohydrates play a big part in the chemical transmitters in your brain. Therefore, it would be a good idea to go for some protein - rich foods, such as meat, fish, poultry products and dairy products. I would recommend meat because it has a lot of proteins, but don't go overboard on meat like lamb and pork as they have a high fatty content. High fat products can have harmful effects on your brain, causing it to react much more slower than usual, and makes you lethargic. Keep to lean beef, chicken and fish and don't consume foods like solid cheese.

However, you should use your common sense when eating meats. Don't be gorging on about 15 pieces of chicken in the hope that you can be awake because if your body has stored enough alertness chemicals to keep it going, it won't be producing any excess, which means that you won't be able to stay awake for twice the amount of time or have twice the energy, but it would help you to gain twice the weight.

Carbs such as pasta, potatoes and bread increase the insulin content in the blood stream, which creates a chemical called tryptophay, which produces serotonin. Serotonin reduces stress and tension and spreads a calming feeling over your body. When you consume potatoes or pasta, it busts the stress on nerves and allows your mind to increase its focus. However, if you want to experience this, don't mix up the high carb foods with the proteins because you'll just help to clog the process.

Something else that could contribute to the well - being of your brain is that easily accessible beverage. No, not the tin of Coke, I mean water! Yep! Hard to believe? Well, listen to this. Our brains are about 80% water, so you need a good intake of water to keep your brain well - hydrated. The smallest hint of dehydration could mean that your stress hormones start working overtime, which means that the chances of your brain getting damaged increases. In addition to this, nearly 83% of your blood consists of water and also acts as a transporter to deliver nutrients to your brain and getting rid of toxins. Water is important for concentration and mental agility.
