About dangers in dieting

Some people diet for the wrong reason and use improper methods. This dieting danger comes about if you don't follow the proper steps recommended by a professional.

Dangers in Dieting

We are almost constantly bombarded with information that supports the importance of a healthy diet. The media and the internet promote dieting as a means of achieving the perfect physique. The advanced technology today also means that we face the problem of being overloaded with too much information. Sometimes, we are presented with information that is not entirely accurate.

“It’s easy to buy into some pretty popular nutrition misconceptions- myths and half-truths that ultimately find us making far fewer healthier food choices than we realize.”
~ Samantha Heller, MS, RD (New York University nutritionist)

There are over 100 diets listed on Wikipedia alone. How will you figure out a diet plan that works best for you? Remember, not all diets suit everybody. A diet that is right for you will depend on your metabolic rate, activity level, genetics, environment and overall state of health. This means that it’s best not to blindly follow fad-diets. It’s wisest to consult a qualified dietician who will come up with a diet plan that will suit your needs. This is a great way to prevent yourself from being misled by all the information you have access to.

Many tend to get carried away with the quest to achieve the “perfect figure,” forgetting that the focus should be on achieving good health. If you’re healthy, good looks are sure to follow. It’s only if you’re healthy that you will be able to look your best. Following a healthy diet will automatically ensure that you stay in shape.

A diet that is easy to follow also means that you are more likely to stick to it for life. Yo-yo dieting can prove to be dangerous and ineffective. Such inconsistent dieting habits will decrease your metabolism, leading to weight gain once you ease your caloric restrictions.

Many claim that they don’t have the time or patience to follow a healthy diet plan, and would rather resort to “faster” methods of weight loss. Most often than not, these methods prove to be harmful to health.

Many opt to take pills or other popular forms of medication that claim to aid weight loss. The attraction lies in the fact that these medications promise rapid results. Most of these medications have been proven hazardous to health and have even been withdrawn from sale.

Some opt for fasting as another “fast and easy” method of weight loss. Fasting for long periods of time can prove to be extremely dangerous. This may eventually result in malnutrition, and in extreme cases- even death. Fasting reduces the levels of blood glucose in your body, your body then begins to metabolize sugars from protein.

The effects of extreme food-intake reduction and rapid weight-loss include

·Malnutrition
·Depression
·Fatigue
·Sinus problems
·Muscle atrophy
·Rashes
·Acidosis
·Bloodshot eyes
·Gall bladder disease
·Seizures
·Fainting
·Subsequent weight gain

There is no better way to ensure that you stay in good shape, than to follow a healthy diet and exercise plan.
