What is mental illness and who is affected by it? Some people become victims of depression. Depression not only affects the person who is going through it, but also everyone around them, including friends, family, loved ones, spouses, and children.

What exactly is mental illness? What causes mental illness? These are some of the first things that come into the mind of a person as soon as we see another person suffering with mental disorders. There are many reasons and many answers for the above two questions.

Sometimes mental illness is passed down through the family tree. Sometimes a person might fall victim due to a tragic event or because that person was not able to cope up with some problem. Sometimes a person will fall mentally ill due to a disease or because of an accident. When considering mental illnesses' there are so many types of illnesses that affect individuals in so many ways. Sometimes people around the person suffering from an illness might not even know about the situation. These can also be categorized as syndromes which affect the brain and affects the way a person acts and behaves.

There are different ways to deal with different types of mental illnesses. The first and foremost thing that a person with mental illness requires is medical attention. This is vital for that person to recover. Sometimes a person might fall ill due to a tragic event like losing a loved one or because of a tragic accident. In this case a person might start to act in an unusual way. This could manly be due to shock. The mind shutting down is a defense mechanism. This is how the minds of some people deal with situations which are two hard for them to handle. This shock can easily turn into a mental disorder if the person in question is kept unchecked. So the most important thing to do is to make sure that proper medical treatment is administrated.

People undergoing such mental states require a lot of attention' love and care. There are so many reported cases where a patient has come around due to love and care. Understanding the patient is another important phase. If the people around the patient neglect him/her or think of the patient as a burden then there might not be a chance for the patient to recover.

Each case needs to be administrated and treated in the proper manner. Proper medical care should be given as soon as possible. This is crucial if the patient is to be rehabilitated.
