| Characteristics of childhood depression |
Studies show that depression among young children has increased dramatically during the last few years. There are more and more children who are suffering with depression which is actually a very sad and depressing situation in its own right.
Through studies and extensive research it was discovered that there are many reasons for a child to be depressed and that there are many characteristics and signs which reflects the depressed nature of the child. Childhood depression is not something any one should take lightly. It is a very serious issue and needs to be addressed accordingly. There are many reasons why a child could become depressed. Social pressures and challenges' pear pressure' parents putting to much pressure on the child' parents separating' loss of a loved one and so many other issues that can pile up to which might push the child towards depression. Childhood depression can also be caused by genetic linking. If the family has a history of depression then a child could easily be carrying it' waiting to pop out onece a chance presents it self. But for any reasons there should be a trigger which activates depression and this can be a single major event or a large pile of smaller self doubting events.
When it comes to adults' when they are depressed it can be expressed verbally. But when it comes to young children the child might not be able to express themselves verbally. The only way it will come out is by action. A child might show signs of solitude' anger' act in a far more serious manner for the age' have eating disorders' remain emotionless and so on. It is up to the parents or guardians to identify these symptoms and act accordingly.
Lots of love and attention can help' but it does not always guarantee success. If the child does not respond to extra affection and care then the child would definitely need medical attention. Depression can be cured provided that the child is administrated to proper care as soon as possible. It is up to the people close to the child to truly show that they care and help the child to get over it and become strong as he/she grows up. |
