The causes for grief
Grief as we all know is the sorrow or sadness caused due to the loss of someone of great bonding and intimacy or something that is highly valued' may be even of sentimental value. Grief is something that almost every person in the world experiences' and a person who grieves would most often take quite some time to recover and get over it.

Loss of a loved one

Loss of a loved one is regarded as one of the worst incidents that would cause grief in a person. Most people do grieve upon losing their loved ones' be it their parents' spouse' siblings' friends' relatives' or any other closely related individuals. In such an instance' it would take a long time for one to recover because the relationship and intimacy between him/her and the one who passed away may be very close' and those memories would always come into the mind thus causing even more grief.

Injury or Accident to self or a loved one

Injury or accident causing damage and disability to self or a loved one can also cause grief and sorrow because he/she might feel that they (self or the loved one) are unable to do the work that they did before' causing them to depend on others to get the work done. The pain one has to go through can also be a cause for grief.

Sickness to self or a loved one

If self or a loved one suffers from an incurable disease or sickness' it would also bring about grief and sorrow. Contracting a disease like AIDS and Cancer would psychologically affect badly on them' and they might also feel that they are discriminated and treated as social outcasts causing even more sorrow.

Divorce and Separation

Divorce and separation would also be a leading cause for grief' especially among those in western countries' due to the high rates of divorce and separation. Grief would be as a result of the loss of love and compassion and also due to stigma of such divorce or separation.

Loss of belongings

Loss of belongings such as the loss of properties' wealth and other goods' possibly due to theft or natural disasters is also a cause for grief. One good example of such an instance is when countries in Asia were struck by the deadly tsunami and people lost their belongings' thus making them grieve on the loss.

Loss of status/ reputation and employment/ job

Another cause for grief would be due to the loss of one’s job and also status. This would bring about a bad feeling in them' which would possibly make them feel that they are being laughed at (if it is loss of reputation) and also the pressure of finding a new job and feeding their loved ones during the period of the loss (if it is the loss of a job).

Loss of a pet

Loss of a pet is also a very common cause for grief' as most people do love their pets so dearly. So losing them would bring about a lot of pain and sorrow.
